What Start-Stop Does to an Ordinary Battery

A conventional car battery is designed around a simple pattern: one deep discharge to start the engine, then hours of recharging while the alternator runs. Everything about its plate thickness and grid chemistry assumes that rhythm.

Start-stop systems break it completely. The engine shuts down at every junction and restarts as the driver pulls away, so the battery can cycle dozens of times in a single journey — and during each stop it alone carries the lights, climate control, infotainment and safety systems. It must also accept charge quickly in the short windows while the engine is running. Thicker, Better-Held Plates

EFB construction uses heavier plates with the active material physically held in place, so repeated shallow cycling does not shed it. Plate shedding is what ends the life of a standard battery used in start-stop service.

Ca-Ca Silver+ Grids

Calcium in both positive and negative grids cuts water loss and self-discharge, which is what allows a genuinely maintenance-free battery. The silver addition improves corrosion resistance at the high temperatures found under a modern bonnet.

Selenium-Enhanced Plates
