Nucleus Max SMF VRLA

Hassle-free, sealed maintenance-free batteries delivering uninterrupted power for automotive, UPS, telecom, security, and industrial applications.

The Challenge

A Standby Battery Spends Years Doing Nothing

A UPS battery in a server room may sit fully charged for years and be called on for ninety seconds. Its whole job is to be ready at an unpredictable moment — and that creates a different set of demands from any battery that works every day.

It must hold charge through long idle periods, so self-discharge has to be minimal. It must deliver a very large current the instant mains fails, without the voltage sagging in a way that upsets sensitive equipment. It sits permanently on float charge, where slow grid corrosion rather than cycling is what eventually ends its life. It is installed indoors, often in an enclosed cabinet, so leaked acid or vented gas is unacceptable. And nobody visits it — a battery needing water top-ups in a locked telecom cabinet will not get them.

Nucleus Max is built around that duty: sealed AGM construction with an oxygen recombination cycle so no water is ever added, calcium-tin alloy grids for an 8 to 12 year float life at 25°C, self-discharge under 3% per month, low internal resistance for high rate discharge, flame arrestor vents and a rugged ABS container. Supplied 12V from 7Ah to 200Ah, certified to BIS, IEC 60896, UL and CE.

Standby or Cycling? Choose on Duty.

The most expensive mistake in backup power is fitting a standby battery to a cycling job. These figures show why.

Temperature Decides Real Service Life

Float life is quoted at 25°C for a reason. As a broad rule, sustained operation around 8 to 10 degrees above that roughly halves it, because heat accelerates grid corrosion. In hot climates a ventilated or cooled battery room is not a luxury — it is the difference between a battery reaching eight years and reaching four.

Sizing a UPS Bank

Standby sizing works from load and required runtime, not daily consumption. Establish the connected load in watts, the minutes of autonomy needed to ride through an outage or shut down cleanly, and the system voltage — banks are built by wiring 12V units in series and parallel to reach it. High rate discharge capability matters as much as capacity for short-duration UPS duty.

Common Questions

SMF VRLA Batteries, Answered.

Sealed construction, float versus cycle duty, temperature and safety — the questions integrators and trade buyers ask most about Nucleus Max.

What does VRLA mean, and how is a sealed battery different?

VRLA stands for Valve Regulated Lead Acid. In a conventional flooded battery, charging splits water into hydrogen and oxygen which escape, so water must be topped up. In a VRLA battery the electrolyte is held in an absorbent glass mat and oxygen produced at the positive plate recombines with hydrogen at the negative plate, reforming water inside the case. That oxygen recombination cycle is what makes the battery genuinely maintenance-free. A one-way valve vents only if internal pressure becomes excessive.

Should I choose VRLA, tubular or lithium?

It depends on how often the battery is discharged. VRLA is a standby battery: 8 to 12 years of float life but rated around 400 cycles, so it suits UPS and telecom backup where it sits charged and is called on occasionally. Tubular batteries such as Inverto Max and Solar Max are cycling batteries, rated for 1500 to 3000+ cycles, for daily outage or solar duty. LiON Max LiFePO4 offers the highest cycle life and lowest weight at a higher initial cost. Using a VRLA battery for daily deep cycling will exhaust it quickly, and that is the most common specification mistake in this category.

Why is float life quoted at 25 C, and what happens above that?

Temperature governs the rate of grid corrosion inside a lead-acid battery, and the reference figure is always given at 25 C. As a broad rule, sustained operation around 8 to 10 degrees above that reference roughly halves the expected float life. In hot climates or unventilated equipment rooms this is the single largest factor in whether a battery reaches its rated service life, which is why air-conditioned or well-ventilated battery rooms repay their cost.

What is high rate discharge and why does a UPS need it?

When mains power fails, a UPS must draw a very large current from the battery instantly so the load never sees an interruption. That is high rate discharge, and it depends on low internal resistance and plate design rather than capacity alone. AGM construction keeps internal resistance low, which is why VRLA is the standard chemistry for UPS and switchgear duty. A flat discharge curve then holds voltage steady, which matters for sensitive electronic equipment.

Are these batteries safe to install indoors?

Yes. The sealed spill-proof design means no acid leakage and no free electrolyte, the rugged ABS container resists impact, and built-in flame arrestor vents prevent ignition reaching the cells. That combination is what allows installation in server rooms, hospitals, offices and enclosed cabinets. Ventilation is still good practice, since heat shortens float life even where gassing is not a concern.

Can I distribute Nucleus Max batteries in my country?

Yes. Tesla Power USA appoints distributors, wholesalers and importers by territory, with West Africa and East Africa currently prioritised. VRLA suits distributors serving telecom, data centre, healthcare, security and industrial channels, and BIS, IEC 60896, UL and CE certification supports tender and import requirements. Rack-mount and battery bank configurations are available for enterprise-scale projects.

When Downtime Isn't an Option.

From server rooms to hospital wards - Nucleus Max delivers the sealed, maintenance-free backup power that critical systems demand.
